Recorde as “Octavious Henry Flowers, born at North Marston, Bucks” he was admitted sizar to St. John’s College, Cambridge, 31 Oct. 1833; & later migrated to Queen’s College, 12 Oct. 1838. Matriculated at Michelmas 1838. Graduated B.A., 1842. Ordained a deacon at London, 20 March 1842. Curate of Nunnington, Co. Yorks., 1843-57. Vicar of Sheriff Hutton, Co. Yorks, 1857-80. In the transcription of the landowners of the North Riding of Yorkshire in 1871 he is recorded as owning 6 acres in the parish of Sheriff Hutton having an annual rental value of £36. Died 6 April 1880 at Sheriff Hutton. In 1881 his brother Marcus commissioned & had placed in Sheriff Hutton Church as a memorial to him a “reredos of caen stone” depicting in the centre panel a representation of the Last Supper, after Leonardo da Vinci, & in the canopied niches on either side, are the 4 Evangelists.

He went to London & was Assistant to his brother John at the Windsor Castle Hotel, near Victoria Station. Through the auspices of his brother Octavious, he obtained a post as a clerk at the British Consulate in Amsterdam & was later selected as interpreter on an embassy to Japan. He was later promoted to HM Consul at Osaka, Japan, before Aug. 1867.
